Most people who have Tennis Elbow get better in a few weeks or months. However, some people don't get better naturally and currently we don't know the best way to treat them. The SORE Elbow Feasibility Trial is comparing surgery and physiotherapy rehabilitation for people with persistent Tennis Elbow for longer than 6 months. The initial treatment is decided randomly but if patients are not improving with physiotherapy they can decide to have surgery later on. Before we can do a full-scale research trial, we need to know whether we can recruit enough volunteer patients and accurately measure the success of the treatments, so we are running a smaller feasibility trial first.
Volunteers for SORE Elbow will be randomly allocated to either have surgery or physiotherapy rehabilitation. All of the surgeons involved in the trial are specialists in upper limb surgery. The physiotherapy rehabilitation programme is based upon research evidence and involves specific exercises alongside activity modification and lifestyle advice.
